I’ve always wanted to become an artist. As you can tell from my early work I have a great sense of perspective. Who hasn’t seen football players with boots bigger than their heads, or a policeman with shoes larger than their entire body?
Perhaps that’s why my parents encouraged my passion for photography! I’ve always loved it, ever since I borrowed my Dad’s camera for the first time when i was a young boy - it weighed more than i did. These days I never leave home without at least one camera. That’s why it takes me so long to get anywhere - I’m easily distracted by a photo opportunity.
A school careers test when I was a teenager recommended I become an accountant or work for the Gas Board. That made up my mind not to become an accountant or work for the Gas Board. Not that there is anything wrong with those careers. I just thought being in the lowest set in Maths and failing Chemistry twice might hold me back…
A radio career seemed unlikely due to my inability to control my giggling fits on air University Radio Nottingham. But a Masters degree in Communications at the University of Florida gave me confidence, pushing me towards the visual side of things.
