Grand Central Station (brushed aluminium)

£950.00
Limited Edition

61 x 91 cm, edition of 25

Grand Central Station - probably my favourite building in the world. The sheer scale of it’s beauty and design is breathtaking. Opened in 1913 it sums up everything I love about New York - the hustle and bustle, the colour and the stunning architecture.

This piece is created from an original photograph and painstakingly coloured digitally by hand, including every person on the concourse and the exquisite ceiling. The image is printed directly onto a thin sheet of aluminum which gives it an etched appearance, picking out the beautiful details of the station.

When I was 18 I worked in New York as in intern for Bear Stearns stockbrokers. For months I commuted into Grand Central from Bronxville in Westchester. So the station become a big part of one of my early adult experiences. It. To a young teenager from London its magnificence and importance to New York it made me feel grown-up, rolling into such a palace every day on the way to work in Wall Street. Perhaps Grand Central is a symbol of my coming of age.

Even now, decades later, Grand Central is the first place I visit when I arrive in New York. It’s my ritual.

Grand Central Station is made to order. It can usually be created and delivered in around 10-14 days. An aluminium subframe on the back makes it easy to hang.
