From my Mini Miami collection: ‘celebrate the big city with a little piece of art.’
Miami is one of my favourite cities in the world. I love its sense of fun, its colour, and above all the stunning Art Deco architecture. Almost every building in South Beach is a masterpieceof design.
This is the Royal Palm Hotel, built in the 1930’s. It served as a military barracks for the troops that trained in Miami during the war. It opened in 1945 for vacationers and was fulled restored to its former glory in the 1990s.
The clean lines, stunning shapes, unusual angles and the beautiful colour scheme make this a big favourite of mine. The piece is created from an original photograph and printed on brushed aluminium, which makes the colours extra vivid. I’ve coloured the sky pink to honour the famous pastel tones of the Art Deco movement and contrast with the hotel’s bright yellow lines. The image is floated in a hand-painted wood frame.
