From my Petit Paris collection: ‘celebrate La Grande Ville with a little piece of art.’
The Pompidou Centre has always been one of my favourite buildings in the world. I find the Rogers and Piano design fascinating. It was the first major example of an 'inside-out' building in architectural history, with its structural and mechanical systems exposed on the outside of the building. Initially all the functional elements were colour-coded: green pipes for plumbing, blue ducts are for climate control, electrical wires in yellow, and safety components in red. A functional work of art. Genius.
This piece is made from an original photograph taken from Monmatre, the highest point in Paris. The image is digitally manipulated to trace the outlines of the Paris rooftop, whilst leaving the picture of the building untouched. It is printed on a small sheet of brushed aluminium, which gives the piece an etched appearance, and floated in a hand-painted wood frame.
Petit Paris, Centre Pompidou is made to order. It can usually be created and delivered in around 2-3 weeks.
