Sign of The Times (Mong Kok)
37 × 51 × 5 cm, edition of 25, £650
This piece was created from my original photograph and digitally coloured. Printing the image on a slim sheet of brushed aluminium gives a nod to the industrial feel of the signs and brings out the bright colours.
Completed with a thick silver aluminium box-frame.
I’ve always been entranced by the chaotic hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. And Mong Kok truly embodies this. The name translates as ‘propserous’ or ‘crowded corner’, and was once described as the busiest district in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. The area is a multi-coloured mix of neon signs cramming every available space. It is a work of art.
I hear many of these signs are being replaced. So I see this piece as an ode to nostalgia.
Please note: ‘Sign of The Times’ is made to order. It can usually be created and delivered in around 2 weeks.
