Although I live in London the Big Apple is one of my favourite cities in the world and often the subject of my art. I love the city’s mix of historic buildings and modern skyscrapers. I love the patterns of the streets and the shapes cast by the Hudson river.
This piece is created from an original photograph, taken on a helicopter trip with the doors off. It is then digitially coloured by hand and printed directly onto a slim sheet of aluminum, which gives it an etched appearance and brings out the shapes and details of Manhattan and its buildings. The vivid blue sky contrasts beautifully with the silver of the aluminum.
