City of Light 2 (copper, L.E.Ds)
55 x 140 x 5 cm, edition of 7, £11,000
City of Light 2 is one of my most ambitious projects. It was concieved and created during my time as the Contemporary Collective gallery’s ‘Artist In Residence’ at the Bankside Hotel in London.
The piece is created from an original photograph of the view from the top of 1 Blackfriars, a new skyscraper on the city’s South Bank.
The outline of the skyline was laser cut into a copper box. The lower half, containing the outline of St Paul’s cathedral (the oldest building in the picture) was aged to give it a patina effect - the gorgeous turquoise colour. The upper half was untouched, leaving it with the orangey/brown finish, mimicking a sunrise or sunset.
L.E.D lights were placed inside the copper box producing a thin sliver of light that traces the outline of the skyline.
City of Light 2 is made to order. It can usually be created in around 4 weeks.
