Centre Pompidou (brushed aluminium)
91 x 69 cm, edition of 25
The Pompidou Centre has always been one of my favourite buildings in the world. I find the Rogers and Piano design fascinating. It was the first major example of an 'inside-out' building in architectural history, with its structural and mechanical systems exposed on the outside of the building. Initially all the functional elements were colour-coded: green pipes for plumbing, blue ducts are for climate control, electrical wires in yellow, and safety components in red. A functional work of art. Genius.
This piece is made from an original photograph taken from Monmatre, the highest point in Paris. The image is digitally manipulated to trace the outlines of the Paris rooftop, whilst leaving the picture of the building itself untouched. It is printed on a slim sheet of brushed aluminium, which gives the piece an etched appearance.
Centre Pompidou is made to order. It can usually be created and delivered in around 10-14 days. An aluminium subframe on the back makes it incredibly easy to hang.
