When the John Hancock Center, now known as 875 North Michigan Avenue, was the second tallest building in the world after the Empire State Building when it was completed in 1969.
I love its simple, unusual shape and the repeated patterns of its exterior, which make it the perfect muse for my art.
This piece is created from my original photograph and digitally coloured. I've used bright a bold bright colour to highlight the building's shape , and to give the piece a pop-art feel.

One of the Marina City towers, probably my favourite building in Chicago. I just love love love them! The shape, the patterns, the concrete - everything about them. If you've seen any of my London Brutalist building pieces you won't be surprised. I'll be creating many more pieces based on these beauties.
I wanted to create a piece to honour their historical signifiance too. When they were completed in the late 1960's the towers were the tallest residential buildings in the world, and the tallest reinforced concrete structures in the world.
'Marina City (pink)' is created from my original photograph, digitally coloured, and printed on a super-slim sheet of brushed aluminium. Printing on metal brings out the vivid pink sky and gorgeous repeated patterns of the building's design. I've used the bold pink to contrast with the stark concrete.

Even as a Brit I love baseball. I love old tickets. And I am absolutely in love with Wrigley Field, America’s second oldest baseball stadium and home of the Chicago Cubs.
So I jumped at the chance to create an aluminium print based on this ticket from the World Championship series in 1938. The original version is painted in white on a wall inside the stadium. I’ve coloured the ticket in bold bright colours to give it a vibrant pop art feel. Printing the image on brushed aluminium makes the colour appear even brighter.

On a recent visit to Chicago I spent many hours watching people interact with Cloud Gate, Anish Kapoor's stunning art installation in Millennium Park. Nicknamed 'The Bean' it really seemed to capture the public's imagination. I loved seeing their joy as they spotted their reflections in the polished stainless-steel surface, reminiscent of a blob of mercury.
This piece is created from my original photograph and digitally coloured. I've used bright bold colour to highlight the gorgeous shape of the sculpture, the warped reflections of the Chicago skyline, and to give it a pop-art feel.

Wow, what a beauty. I could sit and stare at this building all day. The Chicago Theatre was built in 1921 and was the first ‘large, lavish movie palace in America,.

Although I’m a Londoner I’m obessed with baseball. In particular I love the shape of the stadiums.
I hired a small plane to fly over Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, and the second oldest stadium in America (built in 1914). Aerial photography is the best way to capture the shapes and patterns of the urban landscape.
I’ve picked out the stadium and traced the outlines of the landscapes, before printing the image on brushed aluminium. This gives the piece an etched appearance, highlighting the patterns of the streets and emphasising the stadiums place amongst the sprawling metropolis.

The Chicago Water Tower is one of my favourite landmarks, not only for it's beautifully intricate stone design, but also because of it's historic significance.
Built in 1869 it survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, when much of the surrounding areas were destroyed.
This piece was created from my original photograph and digitally coloured with a vivid blue sky to exaggrate separation of the old tower from it's modern neighbors. This piece is created from an original photograph of Ceres, the statue crowning the Chicago Board of Trade building.
The statue of Ceres, the Goddess of Agriculture, is faceless because sculptor John Storrs thought the building was so tall no-one would ever be able to see the face!
I love the elegant shapes and lines of the statue, such a beautiful feature of the 1930's Art Deco style. I've used vivid green and bold pink to highlight its gorgeous shape and give the piece a pop-art feel. You can see the intricate curves and shapes of Ceres as the light catches the aluminium outlines that make up the shapes in the statue.
